Emmy-nominated actor Walton Goggins shocks with revelation: It took five hours to create look of his character The Ghoul in upcoming series Fallout

With both the physical transformation and the complexities of the characters, Goggins seems excited for fans to delve into the world of Fallout

Walton Goggins is immersing himself in the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, the upcoming Prime Video series based on the beloved video game franchise. Goggins plays the dual role of Cooper Howard, a B-movie western star, and The Ghoul, his 200-hundred-year-old mutant killer alter ego; two distinct characters existing in different eras.

“The Ghoul is quite different from Cooper Howard,” Goggins explains. “He’s much more reserved. It was a challenge for me to portray both characters because you can’t fully understand one without understanding the other.” While Cooper remains a mystery for now, Goggins hints at a stark contrast between the two. “The Ghoul is mischievous, with a great sense of humor, but beneath that lies a lot of pain. He has experienced and felt a lot. On the other hand, Cooper is a kind, patient, and caring individual from the Greatest Generation. He embodies the best that this country has to offer.”

Goggins’ metamorphosis into The Ghoul goes beyond acting. The character’s distinctive appearance required extensive makeup and prosthetics. “As The Ghoul, they digitally remove your nose, but the rest is achieved through makeup,” Goggins reveals. “What is it like to act with all that on your face? When we discussed who this character was and how he should look, I knew it would be a rigorous process. The first time we applied the makeup, it took five hours in the chair.”

With both the physical transformation and the complexities of the characters, Goggins is eager for fans to explore the world of Fallout. Apart from Goggins, the series features Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudary, Michael Emerson, and Moises Arias. Filmmaker Jonathan Nolan directed the first three episodes of the eight-episode first season and co-produced the series with his wife Lisa Joy under their banner Kilter Films. Fallout will premiere in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide in English with dubs in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, beginning on April 11, 2024.
