BMW M5: New Generation Launch Details, Performance, Features, Design

The latest iteration of the BMW M5 has been unveiled, showcasing a new plug-in hybrid powertrain that sets it apart as the most powerful M5 to date. The new model features a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine along with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, similar to the setup seen in the BMW XM SUV.

With the engine producing 585hp and the electric motor adding another 199hp, the total system output of the new M5 reaches an impressive 727hp and 1001Nm of torque. This power is distributed to all four wheels through BMW’s M xDrive rear-biased all-wheel-drive system, allowing the M5 to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 3.5 seconds.

Despite the addition of the electric motor and battery, the new M5 is around 500kg heavier than its predecessor, weighing in at approximately 2.4 tonnes. The top speed is electronically limited to 250kph, but with the optional M Driver’s Package, the limiter can be raised to 305kph. The 18.6kWh battery pack enables an electric-only range of 67-69 km, with speeds of up to 140kph achievable in all-electric mode.

In terms of features, the new BMW M5 comes equipped with the latest Curved Display from BMW, a flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with illuminated M buttons, M multifunction seats with electric adjustment, a head-up display, and a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, among other luxury amenities.

The new-generation BMW M5 is priced starting from £110,500 (Rs 1.17 crore) in the UK, with deliveries scheduled to begin later this year. While an official India launch date has not yet been announced, speculation suggests that it may arrive in the Indian market next year. In the meantime, BMW is preparing to introduce the standard 5 Series in India, which is expected to go on sale next month.

Exciting developments are on the horizon for BMW and Mini enthusiasts, as both brands are set to launch three new cars on July 24. Additionally, a walkaround video showcasing the BMW 5 Series LWB offers a closer look at the luxurious and performance-driven lineup from the German automaker.
