Maruti Brezza, Tata Punch, Creta, Ertiga, Mahindra: SUV and MPV Sales May 2024

The SUV and MPV segments in India continue to show strong growth, with over 2,00,000 units sold for the fifth consecutive month in May 2024. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and individual companies, the UV segment witnessed a total of 2,16,572 units being dispatched in May 2024, marking a 17 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The cumulative sales for the first five months of 2024 stand at 1.13 million units, demonstrating a significant 26 percent year-on-year increase from the previous year. With sales numbers already reaching 48 percent of the record 2.35 million units sold in CY2023, the UV segment is on track for another strong year.

Out of the 16 manufacturers operating in the market, five key players – Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai – accounted for a significant 93 percent of the total UV despatches in May 2024.

Maruti Suzuki maintained its lead in the market by selling 54,204 units in May 2024, registering a 17 percent growth compared to the same period last year. The company’s popular models, such as the Brezza compact SUV and Ertiga MPV, continued to drive sales.

Mahindra, known for its SUV-heavy portfolio, reported strong sales of 43,218 units in May 2024, marking the fifth consecutive month of surpassing the 40,000-unit despatches mark.

Tata Motors secured the third position with estimated sales of 33,689 units in May 2024, showcasing a 14 percent increase from the previous year. The battle between the Nexon and Punch models tilted in favor of the Punch, which emerged as the best-selling Tata product in May 2024.

Hyundai Motor India delivered a total of 32,840 UVs in May 2024, showing an 18 percent year-on-year growth. The Creta facelift model proved to be the company’s bestseller, highlighting Hyundai’s strong presence in the SUV segment.

Kia India claimed the fifth spot with 19,500 UVs despatched in May 2024, representing a 4 percent increase from the previous year. The Sonet compact SUV emerged as Kia India’s top-selling model, outperforming the Seltos for the fifth consecutive month.

Overall, the Indian automotive market continues to show strong demand for SUVs and MPVs, with key players driving growth and competition in the segment.
