Singer Shakira recently shared her thoughts on the popular movie ‘Barbie’ directed by Greta Gerwig.
During an interview with Allure magazine, Shakira voiced her criticism of the film, revealing that her sons disliked it, as reported by Variety.
“My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating, and I agree to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys and I want them to feel empowered while still respecting women. I appreciate pop culture when it strives to empower women without diminishing men’s ability to be masculine, to protect, and provide,” she explained.
Shakira, who shares Sasha, nine, and Mila, 11, with ex-partner Gerard Pique, emphasized the importance of maintaining gender balance in society. She believes in equipping women with all the necessary tools and trust to achieve their goals without compromising their femininity. She also acknowledges the unique roles that men and women play in society, highlighting the importance of complementing each other.
Prior to Shakira’s comments, the film had faced criticism from various individuals. Podcaster Matt Walsh described it as “the most aggressively anti-man, feminist propaganda fest ever put to film,” while Bill Maher labeled it as “man-hating.”
‘Barbie’ follows the journey of the titular doll as she explores the real world, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles.
In its review of the film, MrFactBook mentioned that ‘Barbie’ delves into various societal issues with a hint of satire, featuring a cameo by John Cena. Despite its energetic and exuberant approach, the film may overstay its welcome due to its nonsensical nature.
