ARVIND KEJRIWAL, THE CHIEF MINISTER OF DELHI, HAS BEEN ARRESTED

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the liquor policy case.

The arrest took place after a 12-member ED team reached Kejriwal's official residence with a search warrant.

Kejriwal becomes the first sitting chief minister to be arrested in the history of Independent India.

The Delhi High Court had earlier refused to grant protection from arrest to Kejriwal in the liquor policy case.

Kejriwal had challenged the ED summons and repeatedly refused to appear before the agency, calling the summons illegal.

Despite his arrest, Kejriwal's party has stated that he will continue to hold the post of Chief Minister.

The ED's action comes as part of their investigation into alleged money laundering in the excise policy case.
