We conducted thorough instrumented tests on both variants to determine their real-world range and efficiency.
Key points about the BMW iX xDrive40 and xDrive50 variants:
– The iX xDrive40 is equipped with a 77kWh battery, while the iX xDrive50 boasts a larger 111.5kWh unit.
– Our tests were conducted in Efficiency mode with Level 2 regenerative braking.
Real-world range comparison:
– The iX xDrive50, with its 523hp and 765Nm output, features a 111.5kWh battery with a claimed range of 635km (WLTP). In our tests, it achieved a real-world range of 504km with an efficiency of 4.8km/kWh.
– On the other hand, the outgoing iX xDrive40, producing 326hp and 630Nm, had a 77kWh battery with a claimed WLTP range of 425km. It delivered a lower real-world range of 356km and a lower efficiency of 4.63km/kWh.
Our testing process:
– Before the range test, we fully charged the test car’s battery and maintained recommended tyre pressures.
– A fixed loop was followed in the city and on the highway with consistent average speeds. Two people were in the car, and drivers were swapped after each loop.
– Climate control was set to 22°C, and other electrical components were used as a regular user would.
– Our testing data is reliable and provides an accurate indication of real-world performance.
