Hyundai Creta to launch Creta EV; Competes with Maruti eVX

Hyundai is gearing up to launch its first mass-market EV, the Creta EV, in the Indian market in January 2025. Production of the Creta EV is set to commence by the end of 2024, with series production slated to begin by the end of this year. The Creta EV will be the first of five mass-market EVs from Hyundai India, with plans to introduce a total of five EVs by 2030.

The Creta EV will take on competitors such as the Curvv EV, ZS EV, and the upcoming Maruti eVX. It will share some commonality with the Kona Electric, utilizing a front-mounted electric motor that produces around 138hp and 255Nm of torque. The motor will be powered by a 45kWh battery pack, smaller than its rivals but sufficient for everyday driving needs. The charging port will be located at the front of the vehicle for convenience.

In terms of design, the Creta EV will feature subtle styling tweaks to differentiate it from the standard Creta model. The closed-off grille, unique alloy wheels, and aero-optimized design will give the EV a distinct appearance. Inside, the steering wheel and center console will have a different design, with the drive selector located on the steering column, similar to the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5.

Following the launch of the Creta EV, Hyundai plans to introduce a mass-market compact EV in 2026, with details still under wraps. The company is committed to leveraging its experience from the Ioniq and Kona Electric models to create successful EVs for the Indian market. Additionally, Hyundai is exploring the potential introduction of hybrid vehicles in the future, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

Overall, the Hyundai Creta EV represents a significant step for the brand in the EV market, with a focus on innovation, performance, and sustainability. The company is poised to make a mark in the electric vehicle segment with a diverse lineup of EVs that cater to the needs of Indian consumers.
