Phool in Laapataa Ladies

In Laapataa Ladies, Nitanshi portrayed Phool, a young bride who becomes separated from her party. Sharing her preparation for the role, she revealed, “I watched Sui Dhaaga, Balika Badhu, and numerous Bhojpuri women’s videos to understand women from that era since the story is set in 2001, while I was born in 2007. I wanted to embody that era during the audition itself. By my body language, I aimed to convey the essence of those women. I practiced their mannerisms and learned how to wear a veil. Even though Phool has minimal dialogues in the film, her eyes speak volumes.”

Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, unfolds in 2001 rural India, following two young brides who get separated during a train journey and the ensuing investigation led by Kishan, a police officer. Presented by Jio Studios, the film released in cinemas on March 1 and was positively received upon its debut on Netflix India in April.
