Chennai Super Kings’ pacer Matheesha Pathirana said goodbye to the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team after suffering a hamstring injury. With 13 wickets in six matches, he was a key player for his side and will now return to Sri Lanka for further treatment. Pathirana was also the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Pathirana took to social media to thank his CSK teammates and express his desire to see the IPL trophy in the dressing room this season. He also shared pictures with MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, and Eric Simmons in his post.
“A hard goodbye with my only wish to see the 2024 IPL champion trophy in CSK’s room soon! Grateful to the CSK team for all the blessings and love from Chennai. – MP 81,” the Sri Lankan pacer wrote.
Fans sent their best wishes for a speedy recovery to Pathirana.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had previously mentioned Pathirana’s injury during a match against the Punjab Kings, where he was replaced by English pacer Richard Gleeson. The team later confirmed Pathirana’s departure due to his injury, wishing him a speedy recovery.
Aside from Pathirana, CSK has also faced setbacks with players like Mustafizur Rehman and Deepak Chahar exiting due to various reasons. Pathirana’s injury may affect his chances of participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
